Every year, CBA PEI proudly honours excellence in Prince Edward Island’s legal profession. Our awards recognize the people whose outstanding achievements have made important contributions to our association, the legal profession and our wider community.

Daphne Dumont, K.C. Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is offered annually. The Dumont scholarship was established by the CBA PEI Branch to honour the commitment and dedication of Daphne Dumont, K.C., a senior practicing lawyer of the Prince Edward Island Bar and PEI’s only past National President of the Canadian Bar Association. 

Eligibility 

To apply, you must:

  • Be a member of the CBA as of July 31 of the year you apply
  • Be a resident of Prince Edward Island 
  • Be enrolled as a full-time law student at an accredited university law school for the year of application 
  • Have demonstrated scholastic achievement in the previous year of study 
  • Have demonstrated commitment to and be an active volunteer in the community

Method of selection: A committee selected by the Council of the Law Society of PEI chooses the scholarship recipients each year. 

Distinguished Service Award

Established in 1999, the CBA Prince Edward Island Branch Distinguished Service Award is to honour, recognize and celebrate the distinguished or exceptional service a member has made to the goals of the Canadian Bar Association. All nominations are reviewed on the basis of the person’s contribution to the Prince Edward Island Branch. 

Eligibility 

  • The award is open to any individual CBA member in good standing of the Prince Edward Island Branch 
  • Members of the current Executive Committee are not eligible
  • Former members of the Branch Executive are not eligible for this award for a period of one (1) year from the date that their respective service on the Executive ended

Criteria 

The Award recognizes an individual who has made a great contribution to the CBA, the legal profession or the community at large. 

Presentation 

The Award is presented at the CBA Prince Edward Island Mid-Winter meeting or some other venue determined by the Executive Committee.

Selection process 

The Nominations Committee, a standing committee of the PEI Executive, administers the award. The committee may determine that no award shall be granted in any one year.
